Why could I not register a carrier email address?

Carrier email addresses cannot be registered for security reasons.

To help protect your e-money balance, carrier email addresses, which are email services provided by mobile carriers, cannot be used for account registration.

Why carrier email cannot protect your balance

Section titled “Why carrier email cannot protect your balance”

Carrier email addresses cannot be used because the following situations can make it more likely that you will lose access to your account and be unable to use your e-money balance.

1. The email address may become unavailable

Section titled “1. The email address may become unavailable”

Your email address may become unavailable for reasons you did not intend, such as changing your mobile plan, canceling your mobile line, or switching mobile carriers. If the email address becomes unavailable, you may no longer be able to log in to your account and use your e-money balance.

Depending on your settings, your carrier email may reject email from non-carrier email addresses. In that case, you may be unable to log in to your account and use your e-money balance.

3. The email address can be changed easily, which may prevent login

Section titled “3. The email address can be changed easily, which may prevent login”

In general, email addresses are not changed frequently. However, carrier email addresses can often be changed easily and repeatedly. If the email address is changed, you may no longer be able to log in to your account.

If the previous email address is later reused by another person, your e-money balance could be stolen.

We recommend using the email address for an account registered on your smartphone, rather than an email address provided by a mobile carrier.

In many cases, Android devices use Gmail and iPhone devices use iCloud Mail, so consider using one of those addresses.
