Set up the initial point reward

This feature automatically gives points to members who newly join.

It lets you run a “join now and get 1,000 points” offer without granting the points to each member by hand. Use it when attracting new members is the point of the campaign — a flyer or in-store poster pushing sign-ups, or a switch-over campaign from another app.

You can choose between two timings. The choice changes the character of the campaign considerably, so read the next section before deciding.

Choosing between “on registration” and “after the first charge”

Section titled “Choosing between “on registration” and “after the first charge””

The points arrive the moment registration completes.

Because the reward is immediate, this is the lowest barrier to joining. It suits the launch period, when growing the member count itself is the goal, and e-money that is run as a free loyalty card.

The trade-off is that some members spend the points and then stop using the app.

Nothing is given at registration. The points arrive when the member charges with their own money for the first time.

Balance the member paid for stays in the app, which gives them a reason to come back. This suits e-money with a charged balance, where you want members to keep using it after they join.

Think of it as turning the joining offer into a reason to charge. A manual charge made by a shop through Advanced Features, receiving a gift, and a charge by code do not count. Only the member’s own charge — in Cashier Mode or from a credit card — does.

ℹ️ “After the first charge” is unavailable on e-money that does not issue a charged balance (points only). If you turn balance issuance off while “after the first charge” is set, this setting is turned off together with the switch (the confirmation dialog tells you beforehand).

Go to Menu > Settings > E-money Settings > Points > Initial point reward when joining. It sits on the same point settings screen as “Point rebate when paying”.

The setting is not shown while point issuance is off. Turn point issuance on first.

Changing this setting requires the e-money settings permission.

The granted points can carry one of three expiration settings.

  • Match “Point balance expiration date” (default): follows the point balance expiration setting
  • Set a dedicated expiration date: the points expire a fixed period (for example 6 months) after they are granted, independent of the point balance setting
  • Never expire: the points do not expire

With “after the first charge”, the expiration is also fixed at the terms that applied when the member joined, counted from the moment the points are actually granted.

This feature honors the terms that applied when each member joined.

  • Members who joined before you turned it on receive nothing. To give points to past members in bulk, use granting points to members directly
  • If you change the number of points or the expiration, members who joined earlier receive the terms that applied when they joined
  • If you stop using “after the first charge”, members who joined while it was on still receive their points when they later charge

Note the last point in particular. Turning the setting off does not cancel points already promised to members who have joined. The app shows the same warning when you turn it off.

The points are recorded as a “Point Rebate” transaction. The campaign name “Membership points” on the transaction detail tells them apart from ordinary payment or charge rebates. Reports and exported files count them under “Point Rebate”.

With “after the first charge”, the reward is recorded together with the charge that triggered it.

If points are granted by mistake, you can cancel the transaction like any other. Note that canceling it does not grant the points again. To give them again, use granting points to members directly.
